  • Brief Biography

Khalid Iqbal Taib (takhallus 'Taib') was born in 1958 in Khulna where his forefathers migrated from Joanpur, India. Later his family migrated to Karachi, Pakistan. Having craved towards poetry since his early school age, his first Nazam was published in a magazine at Premier College Karachi in 1978.

Khalid Taib is one of the most popular and renowned Sufi poets having strong fan followings within and outside Pakistan. He has more than 500 Hamd / Naats / Ghazals and two printed books to his credit. Moreover, he has more than 30 public audio cassettes & several CD's of his kalam recited in his own heart warming voice with fans making special arrangement of recording in various religious gatherings. He recites all of his kalam in tarranum.

Khalid Taib is a contemporary sufi poet. His thoughts are unique and expressions are deeply religious while maintaining authentic Urdu, mostly in 'Qafia bund' style. Because of being a disciple of a famous contemporary Sufi Shaikh-Molana Hakeem Akhtar Saheb in Karachi (to whom he attributes his popularity and poetic expressions) he has never recited in public mushairas or appeared on Radio/TV.

The religious beliefs of Khalid Taib thread throughout his Kalam with Hamd, Naats, Madh-e-Shaikh and Ghazals asserting 'haqeeqi' themes but doing full justice to the majazi meaning too. Altogether, he's an impressive, soul-stirring contemporary poet albeit carrying a different note.
