Shahida Hassan has made a special name for herself in contemporary Urdu poetry. As a poet of modern and progressive sensibilities she expresses herself through the Ghazal and Nazm genres of Urdu poetry.

She has authored two collections of Urdu poetry, Eik Tara hay Sarhanay Merey and YahaN Kuchh Phool Rakhey HeiN. Several of her creations have been composed and sung by major Urdu Ghazal singers.
